We are seeking a talented, recognized and driven individual for water and wastewater systems design in our Des Moines, Iowa Office. This entrepreneurial individual would provide engineering and project lead expertise for major municipal type projects in water and wastewater areas including; study, design and construction of large diameter storm water and wastewater collection and pumping systems, both gravity and pressure flow; SSES studies and programs, sanitary sewer and storm sewer rehabilitation; water distribution, tanks and other conveyance and storage systems.
Local and regional projects include assessments and studies, preliminary and final design, preparation of construction contract documents, cost estimating, project scheduling and overall project management. Senior Engineer/Project Lead-Water Resources (09128)
This individual will be responsible for leading water resources engineering projects in our Des Moines office. Tasks will include conducting field studies and surveys, collect, assimilate, and present data in reports, memos and public meetings; lead production of design calculations and technical reports; and lead preparation of engineering plans and specifications for design of detention facilities, storm drain systems, flood control facilities, channel restoration/rehabilitation and other hydraulic structures. Will use engineering and modeling techniques for governmental water resource projects, including flood control, river and stream grade control structures, levees, dams, channel restoration/rehabilitation, and watershed issues. Will perform hydraulics & hydrology modeling using HEC-1, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM5, and WinTR-55; prepare base maps for watershed delineations, delineate floodplains using AutoCAD, ArcView GIS with Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst.
Self motivated, able to work independently and with project teams in multiple offices to complete tasks; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Will prepare proposals, scopes of work and contract cost estimates. 10+ years of experience in water resources engineering projects is required.
Proficiency in using AutoCAD/LDD or Microstation/Geopak, a plus.
Requires BS in Civil Engineering, PE Required, or ability to obtain Iowa PE within 6 months, 10+ years experience.

In the performance of field design and staking, overtime and extended work weeks may be required as well as working in less than ideal weather conditions. Project durations could be for 1.5-2.5 years. Ability to effectively communicate with land owners in a rural setting along route of lines is required. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and establish a harmonious relationship with field teammate is critical. Develop and check cost estimates for a variety of architectural, civil, industrial, institutional, and utility type projects. Cost estimating would include quantity take-offs and use of cost estimating software which could include spreadsheets, Timberline, PACES, and MCACES estimating tools. Develop and check cost estimates including tasks such as interpreting drawing, quantity take-offs, determining unit prices, and completing estimates using PC software; develop construction project schedules. Experience shall include significant work as a Project Manager “Inside-the-Fence” and should include leadership of study, design and construction phase services for wastewater or water treatment process and facilities (majority of experience: 5MGD and greater). Candidate shall possess an expertise in one or more specific areas of current treatment process systems or contaminant removal.

Senior Transportation Engineer (08240)
Independently performs transportation related design tasks including: roadway geometric design, storm drain design and calculations, plan and specification preparation. Some investigational field work required as necessary on projects. Must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require the investigations of a limited number of variables. Will be accountable to Project Lead/Manager and Discipline Approver for discipline output and project results. Responsibilities include:
• Assist in the collection and analysis of data from reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs to plan and design projects.
• Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
• Assist in the development of probable design costs estimated for projects with the department.
• Attend onsite and offsite client meetings.
• Serve as onsite resident project representative, reviews construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
• Prepare and check design computations and quantity estimates.
• Assist in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, permits and designs for projects.
• Instruct designers/technicians to reduce designs to working drawings.
• Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. This software includes Geopak, InRoads AutoCAD, and Microstation
• Contact vendors, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants to obtain information, guidance and requirements.
• Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual.
